Services and Programs

San Joaquin General Hospital, originally established in 1857, is a general acute care facility providing a full range of inpatient services including General Medical/Surgical Care, High-Risk Obstetrics and Neonatal Intensive Care. In addition to the 196-bed hospital, the medical campus includes multiple facilities dedicated to comprehensive outpatient services including Primary Care and specialty clinics.
San Joaquin General Hospital

Medical Assistance Program (MAP), located at SJGH, offers health care coverage for services at San Joaquin County facilities for those who meet the eligibility requirements, which include being a legal resident of San Joaquin County, gross income of less than 300% of the Federal Poverty Level, and who do not have eligibility or access to other coverage such as Medi-Cal, private health Insurance, or Workers’ Compensation. This program fulfills the County Mandate under Welfare and Institutions Code 17000.

Public Health Services monitors and protects the health of the entire community. The division provides services and interventions to reduce the incidence of communicable diseases in San Joaquin County. PHS Clinic Services to provide childhood, influenza and travel immunizations, and examinations to identify and treat sexually transmitted diseases. The Family Health Division promotes the health and development of pregnant women, mothers, infants, children and adolescents. Health Statistics and Reporting tracks statistics and publishes reports describing the health of County residents. Community Health Promotion and Chronic Disease Prevention provides health education services including tobacco use prevention, teen pregnancy prevention, nutrition and physical activity, children's dental education, and chronic disease risk reduction.

Emergency Medical Services is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating the emergency medical services system including basic and advanced life support services, ambulances and first response contracting and performance, emergency medical dispatch, local and regional disaster medical response, oversight of EMS personnel training and licensure, setting medical policies, and ensuring high quality patient care.

Correctional Health Care provides mandated health care-medical, psychiatric, dental and pharmaceutical- to inmates of the county’s adult and juvenile detention facilities.

Behavioral Health Services provides the administrative structure for departments that provide Mental Health Services, Substance Abuse Services and the Public Guardian/Public Conservator.

  • Mental Health Services provides services through Crisis Intervention, a 40 bed Psychiatric Health Facility, and outpatient services for adults, older adults and children.

  • Substance Abuse Services is responsible for the coordination of alcohol and drug treatment and prevention efforts and provides a range of drug and alcohol treatment services for residents of San Joaquin County, including outpatient, day treatment and residential treatment services.   Prevention services offered include programs designed to build youth leadership skills, offer alternatives, and develop awareness of the impact of drugs and alcohol on our community.
    Substance Abuse Services
  • Public Guardian/Public Conservator ensures the physical and financial safety of incompetent and mentally disabled persons when there is no viable alternative, such as friends or family. They also provide representative payee services for those persons unable to appropriately utilize their funds for food, clothing or shelter.

 Emergency Medical Services

Emergency Medical Services regulates ambulances and sets a single standard of care for all emergency services in San Joaquin County. EMS works as a team, coordinating hospitals, physicians, ambulance providers, fire departments, and law enforcement to ensure that daily EMS services run smoothly. Disaster management is coordinated through EMS to provide all residents with efficient, quality medical attention.
